Company History
Growing up in India, Rajen Ganeriwal surprised his family with his ambition to attend an engineering college in the United States. At just eighteen years old, Mr. Ganeriwal pulled together crinkled rupee bills from his desk drawer, boarded a ship to America, and attended California State University. He graduated with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering degrees in 1963 from CSU.
Rajen returned to India after graduation and worked for Hindalco—a large aluminum plant. A young engineer, he quickly moved up in the ranks. Eventually creating a home in the Washington D.C. area, Rajen served as a consultant engineer for the U.S. Postal Service, a catalyst in his career. While there, he designed large sorting and automatic control machines for parasols and letters, which in his mind planted the seed of SORTAC (SORTing Automatic Control). Recognized for his breadth of knowledge in engineering in electrifiers, Mr. Ganeriwal eventually moved onto working for Parsons Corporation, where he designed sub stations for the Washington Metro system. For nearly forty years, Rajen served in a variety of positions for Parsons: starting as a Senior Electrical Engineer, Chief Electrical Engineer, and finally a Systems Manager, where he had a staff of fourteen engineers and CADD designers. Upon retirement, Rajen started SORTAC Systems.
Today, SORTAC Systems employs multiple engineers, construction inspectors, architects, and program managers. Mr. Ganeriwal has been focused on growing and expanding his business to meet the demands of clients in the D.C. area and beyond. Still, even with all his success, Rajen’s eyes light up when he talks about his formative experience of creating sorting automatic control systems – the inception of SORTAC Systems began.
